What style is cedar chest with two- toned carvings on the front, simple, abstract floral design? Can't remember what style the dealer said- it was the end of auction and he was a little tired, too. Thought he said Craftsman or Arts & Crafts. It is Lane cedar chest, putting it at after 1912. This would not be true Arts and Crafts, from what I've seen on the net. The font on the insurance label which is stapled inside looks more like the 1940's to me. I am such a novice, though, and other than this, have little idea what year or style. I e-mailed the company but since I am not looking to buy, I am unsure whether the response will come. Again, the identifying features of the style are basically the carved floral design and the carved border on the bottom, of a somewhat fleur-de-lis pattern with widened circle-like ovals between them, and the fact that there is a definite two-tone quality to the front panel. Also, there are legs rounded as you might do with a lathe, and the lid of the chest is beveled. Thank you for any pointers you can give on this!
Higher art - fashion design theme? Higher art - fashion design theme??? For higher art a theme is needed to inspire a collection of fashion drawings - any ideas for a theme?? some themes that were suggested were floral, plant life or a decade such as the sixties. any themes or ideas please??
Why are florists paid so little? I recently finished my floral design courses and am quite discouraged by the starting wage employers are offering. I not expecting to get rich working within the industry, but the average wage so far is $8 hourly (CAN). I realize that one has to work their way up, but really who can live on that and be able to save for a rainy day. When you have paid alot of money to take the nessarry courses, where is the financial gratification in the long run? I make more money serving tables which is a no brainer. Floral design is an art and takes creative tallant to be good at what you do. Not that I would call myself an artist yet, I have a long way to go, but I know people who have been in the business a long time, and arn't nearly paid what they deserve. Any imput would be appreciated!
Need help with obtaining a very simple circular maze design...? I am doing a project for a floral art class and want to do what is called a Pave design in a flat, low, circular glass container. The design/maze lines will be outlined in greens in a circular maze design and the concentric rings will be filled with graduating colors of flowers/rocks/glass. I have been looking online for a good, simple circular maze that I can print out and use as a template for the design, but so far I have found little to help me. All of what I have found seems to be very complex and too detailed for my purpose, or I have found photographs that are taken from a standing point of view. Does anyone have any ideas? thanks so much!

Resources on Czech folk art? My mother's side of the family is Czech, and very proud of their heritage. I wanted to knit something for my grandmother for Christmas, and I saw a scarf with a floral design added to the bottom and thought it was something very pretty she would like. I'd like to try to come up with my own design, based on Czech folk art I've seen throughout my life, but it wasn't until I started trying to come up with something that I realized how little I know about it. I have a few Czech recipe books that have beautiful floral motifs that I love, but I wouldn't mind some more examples to work with. Can anyone point me in the direction of a few resources on Czech folk art?
Irritated with counselor... Ok, I am going to be a senior in high school this upcoming year. I just recently received my class schedule and I was unhappy with it so I emailed my counselor about it. I have never had a problem with this before. But this time he didn't answer for 6 days so I sent him another email asking whether he received my last email and I repeated my request. He emailed me almost an hour later and told me to talk to him once school started. The question I asked him was if he could please switch my 3rd period Art class to 5th period and my 5th period AP English class to 3rd period. It's really simple. I have a feeling he is going to ask me why I want the class periods switched and honestly I don't have another answer besides I want to be with my friends for at least one period. Honestly, if he did the switch, English would be the only class with my friends. Since I am going to be a senior this year I want to make the most of it. I don't think that answer would fly though so I need some help with better answers. What are some reasons to switch that I can tell my counselor that are better than the actual reason? p.s. this is the rest of my schedule if it helps: 0 - Homeroom 1 - Yearbook (has to be first period) 2- Art/His Floral Design 3 - Art 4 - Pre-Cal 5 - AP English 6 - Government Yes, AP english is offered both 3rd and 5th period. My friends have it 3rd and have it 5th, that's why I want it switched. There is only 1 AP English teacher.

Where can I find online wallpapers like laura ashley designs-floral, swirly, arty prints. French..?Victorian? If you have the book 'the goddess guide' by Gisele Scanlon, the designs really sum up what im after - that specific old wallpapery look, all swirly and floral sort of french or victorian. Hope ive described what I want without too much confusion, any good links to a collection of these designs would be ideal, but if you've seen one or two floating around that would be good! OH and if you know what these patturns are called to narrow it down for me in the search engines that would be cool, as im not getting very far typing in swirly art!

Looking for a site! Create your own room wallpaper, and sell it? There was a site, but i can't remeber the name, and cant find it in my history! You could design your own wallpapers for rooms and such, and sell them on that site. They could also be nominated as one of the monthly top designs, and people voted for your design. You could buy your design by the foot i believe. If no one knows about this, then oh well :P Any other sites i can buy wallpaper by the foot? I want the design to be illustrated, black and white, line art styles, or floral styles.
I need some ideas on decor for a baby's room with a "tea party" theme? The room will be painted a light lavender, and the bedding is lavender/mint green floral...kind of a "shabby chic" design. I would like to stay away from "cutsie" types of art, etc., and make the room more like a room you would decorate in the house that doesn't scream B-A-B-Y! Does anyone have any ideas? If not, and if you don't have something nice to say, then please visit another question...thanks!

Can A person survive on the fluctuation of commision and tips as a Cosmotologist and a Esthetician combined? Hello Everyone. I am a 43 single still woman with two dogs who has tried it all pretty much.. in ways of work. I even attempted to go to College twice with no much luck. I had given Paralegal a wurl too. I am since a little girl a very creative artistic person. My Ultimate extreme goal is to become either a best selling author or.. a painter. I knew this since I was about 10 .. however had no help or support from family. I was an A student and could have gotten scholarships in the arts. Now.. at 43.. I am stuck at a dead end job, working because of gas prices and barely...making ends just meet, with no extra spending money for even clothes. I want to better myself. The media that I hear constantly keeps encouragin nursing. I have a good friend who is a RN and super stressed out over her career. I also read the blogs on all nuses .com and many sadly go into this feel for the security and money and admit to that on the blog. Many are complaining of burn out and injuries. I am not a good person with the elderly and I am not all that compassionate to be honest. I am passionate about art and dogs/animals. I decided.. or.. so.. I thought... to go to an Aveda School for cosmetology that will take me 11 months to complete then go for esthetician which will be an extra 4-5 months. I would then be qualified to do it all.. Hair, nails and skin care. I am just worried that although this would be creative and artistic.. that it would require me to compete with the younger gals who dress trendy and I never have. I also am worried about finances. Although .. they both bring in tips you must get and maintain clients and then eventually you will get a comission of 30-45 percent. I called a Aveda salon and owner said one gal is making 50 grand but.. this must fluctuate with the commisions and tips. I suppose.. I am not use to living on a flexible fluctuating pay scale. I may be able to eventually down the line maintain a liscense to work out of my home to do it that way too.. Aveda for those who are unfamiliar is a Hollistic organic botanicals uses to formualte their product line. I was worried also about aging in that field. Mabe.. I am worrying for nothing or too much. I also.. plan to for sure.. go there after.. to a county college for 8 months to get a certificate in floral design. The woman who teaches the class gets in leads there too. But.. I must do the later first . Cosmetology offers flexibility and you can pencil yourself in. I can then .. do both creative fields. This will enable me to leave my jobs behind when I leave them.. and concentrate on some writing coorespondence school that I plan to take.. and any other on line or off writing and art classes. Now.. that I said all that.. LOL .. I think.. I may be okay. Hey.. if I break into the writing or art area that is my childhood life long dream.. then all else can go away.. if the money follows. By the way.. all above is me and what I love to do. I want to be able to pay the rent, all my bills and car expenses and feed the dogs. I also.. want to not have to worry so.. much and often about money as I have my whole life been very very poor. I dont remeber the last time I bought undies or clothes. If I do.. I go to good will. I also want to be able to have a clear head to pursue my dreams later on. I heard the cosmetology boards are hard to pass. Not sure though. I also love flowers and colors of all sorts. I am not a glamour girl by far. But.. I can learn to dress nice. I never had the money to do so.. or incentive. Any encourgement will be appreciated. Thank You All. Ohh and I just stretched a ligament in my hip and have to have physical therapy before work. Am on light duty. And bag groceries for now. How sad!

Need to identify a type of art!!? Not sure if it is chinese, japanese, asian, or korean. I am looking for the name of the types of pictures that were popular a long time ago. It is where they convey the images through the outline only. Kinda similar to what they opened the Disney Mulan movies with. Also, if anyone can direct me to images of it that would be really helpful. Searching in particular for floral and bird images. Charts would be even better. I am trying to design a panel in crochet and it needs to reflect an asian/japan type theme to it. Thanks and sorry for being so uninformed as to the country of origin. LOL.

I need tattoo ideas similar to these...? I've already got 3 stars on my left foot on the left side. I went to my tattooist today and couldn't really find a design I like so I'm incorporating loads of different designs which I'm going to draw out rough tonight (not stealing them!!). Here's some tattoos I like, so you get the idea. No tribal please!! http://palegothicangel.deviantart.com/art/foot-vines-47704508 http://crashchick.deviantart.com/art/floral-foot-tattoo-46200321 http://silverhartoo.deviantart.com/art/Swirly-foot-tattoo-51632682 I mainly really like the bottom one...so any other pictures which look a bit like that then please help!! :) Did I ask if I should get it? No. Leave those useless answers for the kids wanting skulls on their forheads. And to the twats saying they are ugly, did I ask that? Did you see that in the question at all? No. So do use your extremely gash answers for the people that do. If you can read this, that is. :)
Henna...IS NOT A Temporary TATTOO!? does anyone get irritated as me,I HATE IT WHEN PEOPLE SAY "TEMPORARY HENNA TATTOO".,,i had to write articles about this ancient exotic body art. its used in 60 countries for thousands of years..from the lacy or geometric patterns to the large beautiful floral designs...henna has always been part of traditional body art. henna is not anywhere near a tatoo, its not ink and it isnt permemant.....getting little squiggles on the hand is nothing. why people put henna in the same sentence as a tattoo..i dunno why..u people can explain that? explain it to me...i really wanna know why this ancient body art is associated with a tattoo? but if u speak to people of those cultures...including myself..its very irritating that people associate a traditional body art with a "tatoo"....tattooes are permenant and they use ink. its not a fashion accessory either, the way some people use it..its like theyre talking about the latest fashion accessory...nooo. one person asked "what is henna" contact me and i promise to give u a full detailed explanation. Lady H....that is inaccurate!! its temporary in that it lasts a couple of weeks....but some people get poisined from the ink of tattooes..and again, tattooes are permenant...in 20 years..do u want that butterfly or whatever animal it is on ur neck or wherever? Im telling u....henna is not a tatoo! it only became to be considered one when it made its way from the east to the west. henna is not an ink..its a natural paste

I REALLY need gay opinion on this story!!? Sometimes It wasn’t that I didn’t want to hear it; I just wasn’t ready for it. Sunday nights were out times, we’d sit, smoke and talk, it was all outs, nothing held back. He was the one who would speak up first. It was always crap. We’d get that shit out of the way first, that way we could end on a high. But highs aren’t always what count sometimes, sometimes it’s the lows that stick. Sometimes it’s the lows that scream out to you. It’s the lows that scream out with the intense subtly of the moment. And it’s from the lows that sometimes a few selected joys can and do flower. It was one of those outdoor hookah bars. Cheap, comfortable, friendly, and authentic. The owner Ghani had been weaving his way through low comfortable couches and fire pits freshening up the coals. It was fairly cool, but on each side of the patio there were windbreaker walls, only the end was open facing Main Street. He started out shaky. His voice trembled, his face and eyes diverted. This wasn’t how things normally started; normally without fuss we’d sit down, Jason would order our drinks, maybe a bite to eat and then came our smokes. It was quiet that night. The lights were low. The Arabic music was playing something mysteriously familiar. His eyes, they normally looked right at you, but now, now they seemed to be desperately searching for an escape. Then he begged for my attention. “I need to say something.” He had leaned in very close. The low makeshift table we were sitting at shifted with one of those rude scrapes. You know, the kind that ruins moments. And then the couple across the way looked over. Right on queue. The tea was green. Normally it was dark, black and worked like a fucking diuretic. The last time I remember I personally made four trips to that disgusting bathroom, but when nature calls in public, a bush just won’t do. My heart started to pound, what was it? What was the big news? I had been at work all day; I was wearing my favorite pink floral shirt with a tan sweater-vest over light grey pants. Stressed, tired and looking only to vent I wasn’t ready for it. Whatever it was though, I’d let him belt it out. I’d let him say it. Till then I was perfectly fine just letting the strawberry scented smoke fill each of our respectively polluted lungs and leave it at that. Deep down though, I knew what it was. He’d told me last week where he’d been spending his Saturday nights. I knew, hell I was just lucky he hadn’t caught me there. I mean, I’m there one two times out of the month. I knew but never said it. It wasn’t my place, and it wasn’t time. He’d told me it was for the music, that they had very similar taste. Did he think I didn’t know why? I looked over at his face, tried to catch his eye. After all, he’d started to say something anyways; it wasn’t like I was trying to stop him. The couple next to us had presently been ignoring us, they had moved on about ten minutes ago to the oh-so-interesting topic of venereal diseases and who had them. Note to self: don’t hook up with Ron. Jason had on a salmon pink silk shirt with black pants. It wasn’t a secret at either of our offices that we had “questionable” fashion sense. But hey, is it my fault fuchsia works great with my skin tone? That was his line. He knew that half of the guys on his floor didn’t even know the difference. It was our inside joke. It’s not pink. It’s fuchsia. I think he ripped that one off of some gay indie flick, but one can never really be sure. Then he stopped. He reached out with his right hand and grabbed the pot of tea. He’d drunk his already. As he poured his fill, he caught my eye. Finally. They were brown, light brown, his eyes. He put the pot back down and took a deep breath. The background noise coming from the patio seemed to get if not a little louder, then fuzzier. I couldn’t catch what Stephanie had, was it gonorrhea or syphilis? “Chris’, he said. ‘Chris I’ve got to tell you something.” It wasn’t that I didn’t want to hear it; I just wasn’t ready for it. Some things are just too much. I could deal with anything when all I did was suspect. When my little brother went off to high school only to become the biggest pothead in its history, all I did was suspect. That was enough. Suspecting was enough. I liked not knowing what and who he was doing on Saturdays. My heart felt very uncomfortable. Something short of being sick and dying, it wasn’t exactly heaven. But then again this wasn’t exactly the most perfect of oases. I had often daydreamed of redecorating the place. It’s so utilitarian, it really need a gay touch. I mean, there’s this big tree in the middle, bare, half dead, extremely attractive. Not only that though, there is this fountain off to the side, two of them actually, always empty! I’ve tried to talk to Ghani about it, but his mother designed it, and no up and coming gay man from West LA could talk her out of it. The place could use some Middle Eastern art as well, some wall hangings, artistically crafted poetry. Something, anything other than the blandness of the current state would suffice. He glanced to either side, and subsequently started to tap his foot, one of his nervous habits. “What was it?” I asked. I let out what I’d never thought I’d do. I asked. He looked at me again, apparently plucked up the courage needed, and let it out. “Don’t get freaked out Chris,” He said. Shit. I started looking for my ever-handy cigarettes in my coat pocket. One of my nervous habits. “Chris, I think. No, I’m pretty sure. Chris, I’m gay.” That was it. It wasn’t that bad. No, it wasn’t that bad. Everything got quiet. Tiffany had who the hell knows what, but somehow I couldn’t bring myself to care. I looked up, took a deep breath, and watched the perfect smoke rings being made by one of the other regulars. Fuck, did I tell him I’d known all along? Did I tell him I didn’t care? Damn it, did I tell him I was glad? I did however finally feel my heart calm, I finally did let it out. After all, he’d done it. I looked at him, looked him in the eyes, and said it. Said what I never thought I’d say. “I don’t give a shit.” I felt like throwing up. Right then and there, no qualms, just puke. Maybe I could aim for the venereal disease couple. That might make things a little more interesting. Like the moment needed it. “Look, Jason,’ deep breath, ‘I really don’t care whether you’re into guys, as long as you’re happy, as long as its you.” “I made out with a guy at Pride last week.” No, he wasn’t working very hard at making this less uncomfortable, although I couldn’t help but smile. “So you’re just coming out, and you’re already hitting up man meat at Pride?” He didn’t think it was quite as funny as I had, but still, I mean come on! It was mildly entertaining. I just never really pictured him as the “making out on the dance floor” type. It shocked me. “He had a tongue ring, it was kind of weird.” It was his turn to laugh. We sat there laughing our skinny white asses off, not caring what the venereal people thought, not caring that the other was as gay as a three dollar bill. It was really something, something worth something. It was around eleven thirty when we left that night; our boots rhythmically crunched the loose gravel of the parking lot. Slowly keeping time with the other. We parked right next to each other, my silver Jetta just to the left of his white Civic hybrid. We stood there under the soft flickering light of the streetlights for a few minutes, not really knowing what one does after a coming-out smoke. What does one do? We hugged, I lingered, and oh what the fuck, I went for it. I don’t know, I just suddenly found my left arm hugging the small of his back while my right went searching for his shoulders. I would never have thought that something so seemingly odd could ever feel so natural. I never imagined it could feel so right. But then he was the one who let our bodies touch. He was the one; thank God, who pulled me in closer. It was his second spontaneous kiss with a man; it was my fourth. After all, life’s not always what you’d think, sometimes it’s what you’d wish. Sometimes it’s the lows that bring out the most highs, and sometimes nothing held back really is nothing held back. It's a short story for my college writing class... what i need to know is if the relationship is realistic... Yea, I'm gay, but I'm closeted and wouldn't really know the dynamics of this kind of relationship Props to all who actually read it!!!!!
