My Floral Design

Custom Floral Design Knowledge Base

does anyone have their own business doing weddings? Any service in the wedding industry! I want to hear about how you do things. I am a florist and looking to start a home based business that will allow me to serve Brides by providing them with custom floral designs for their weddings. I am experienced in wedding design(10 years) but I need tips on how to get things rolling without starting a storefront and high overhead costs. I am also already registered with the state and have a tax id #. Any tips are welcome!
An extremely annoying question for you re custom work!? I've yet to put my artist's creative talents to test - before now I've always taken in the design I want and it's remained virtually unchanged. However there is a piece coming up that I intend to chuck some ideas at him for and see what he comes up with (my back has some large tattoos but I want to have the gaps filled in with a floral design to turn it into something resembling a backpiece!). Here comes the annoying part! How much have YOU been charged (or do you charge, if you're an artist) for custom designs on this sort of scale? I don't expect you to estimate what it'll cost me - I know the drill! I'll be asking him in a couple of days anyway as I'm back in the chair. I'm just curious about what other people have been charged - I've no idea whether it'll be free, single, double or triple figures! Sorry to be annoying!! Oh, and can you tell me how much you think the tattoo will cost? And will it hurt? [JOKE!] Haha, thanks! ;-) I actually meant how much just for the draw-up - I was joking about how much would the tattoo cost! I've got a fair idea about the sort of price the actual tattoo will end up being. But you covered what I was asking anyway so cheers! :D Ok thanks but I think you're missing what I'm asking! I know pretty much how much the tattoo will cost me. Just wondering how much you've paid in the past for your artist to draw up a piece of custom work for you - as in just for the actual drawing. Not the tattoo! Maybe I'm not being clear?? I'm going to ask my artist when I see him on Thurs to draw up some ideas I have. And I'm just asking out of curiousity what people have paid for that service alone (not the tattoo) so I don't get bowled off my seat if it's more expensive than I think! Oh yeah, I forgot to mention that! I don't consider it to be ridiculous. The deposit is taken off the end cost, right? So they've not lost out, and you've cut your chances of being messed about! Sam - the better the artist, the more rules and restrictions they can get away with setting for their customers - she's obviously making a living with that rule enforced, so perhaps that tells us about the quality of her workmanship!
Any good internet sources for making your own t-shirt? I'm looking to design a custom shirt for my friend, but I need some classic design elements to add some artistic flare to my designs. I plan to print the design myself and try the iron-on technique, but I don't know where to find any design elements to spice up my artwork (such as floral elements, or the "rustic" or "weathered" look). Anyone got any ideas?

Best place in Houston to get tattoo done, and should I have artist modify the design for me? I am getting a small tattoo done soon in Houston, Texas, and I am looking for a clean, safe place to get it. A friend recommended the Sacred Heart Studio, but when I went to their website, they seem to focus on piercings, with tattoos almost as a side-business, which makes me a little nervous. Does anyone have any recommendations for safe, clean tattoo parlors? I will of course be checking out the possibilities in person before having anything done. In addition, I have a tattoo design that I like, but I want to have some minor modifications made to it—just turning a few parts that look slightly floral into distinctly floral. Is it better to pay one of these custom-tattoo guys on the internet who send you three options and then create a final one from your comments on those three, or to work with the artist who will actually be tattooing you? Thanks!
Would you buy this? need advice? HI, I'm starting a small business, more as a hobby to earn extra money while finishing the floral design program I am enrolled in. I make custom wedding bouquets out of artificial flowers for brides. They choose the colors, sometimes the flowers, and I personalize them with jewels, ribbons and various items of the brides choice. I'm looking to expand this more to reach more customers so my question is how can I advertise this more to receive more business? Any ideas?
I don't know how much I should charge someone for making a hat? I am a floral design student but I work as an administrator & sometimes ladies from work ask me to do little creative projects for them. I made 1 lady a custom facinator & pill box hat (she wanted me to make both so she could choose the one she liked best) for the Melbourne cup. She is really happy with both of them & want's to pay me for my work. I have no idea what to charge (To be honest I was happy to do it for free, I told her as much but she insists on paying me) I probably spent about 3 hours making them in total & it cost me $40 materials. She was quoted over $500 by a milliner to make the hats. What do you think would be a fair price for me to ask? I told her to just give me whatever she thinks but she is insisting I give her a price. I really could do with the money I guess. Would $140 be a lot to ask? (incuding materials.
I need to choose a hairstyle to go with my halter top wedding dress.? I custom designed my wedding gown to get exactly what I wanted. It only cost me 150.00!!! Anyways, I have little less than a month to decide how to do my makeup and hair. I'm white French tipping my nails. I'm wearing pretty natural makeup, with the exception of black eyeliner. I'm making my bouquet with ribbon and glass beads, and other out of the ordinary non-floral oddities. Everything is completely white. Here's a couple pics, to give you an idea of my face shape, and length of my hair. It's going to be about the same color as it was in the second pic, maybe a tad darker. http://i28.tinypic.com/2dqk5g4.jpg http://i29.tinypic.com/oqwq3q.jpg It reaches the middle of my back when it's down and straight, and I don't want to cut much off, although I am going to trim the dead ends. Also, I like updos, and half updo's, but the only request my fiance' made in regards to the whole wedding is that I wear it down. I would like a veil, mid back length. Any ideas? THANKS!
Where can I find a catalogue of premade ready to install floor mosaics for a bathroom floor? I was reading Wish magazine and saw a photo of a black and white mosaic floor (white base, floral border and interior design). The magazine says that premade mosaic sheets exist and are available, yet I can’t find any online, only people willing to make one from scratch. I’m looking for a more affordable option, something premade or mass produced by machine. I simply love the look but don’t have the money to pay someone to custom make one. Do they mass produce such a thing? If yes, where can I get one? Are there any affordable options? Any website links? THANK YOU!!!
Does anyone know the origins of Waylon Jennings' famous guitar? I recently bought a custom leather covered Tele replica with the floral pattens like his and have wondered if it was Waylon's own design and when did he do it. It is the one of most famous and best looking Telecaster I've seen. I'm a long time Waylon fan and have read very little info on his guitar.
Font issue for creating own sweatshirt? I have a sweatshirt that I love dearly and I've basically worn it out. Since it was a custom-made item during a vacation, I am on my own to recreate the sweatshirt. There is also a trademark logo that stores would need special permission to use. I am fine with recreating the sweatshirt on my own but I am having a problem: the font. The problem is not the actual font name but the fact that it was a font that was filled in with a design. The design was a green Hawaiian floral one, and I can not seem to figure out how to recreate that part. Does anyone know how I could recreate this? What I am really looking for is someplace that would have this design available as a fill-in. So far, I have only found solid color fill ins and not patterns. Any advice would be helpful.
