Can anyone help with the history of floral table arrangements? A friend is doing a City and Guilds course in floral design, and needs to know the history of table arrangements. I've searched the net for info, but lots of searches seem to come up with summaries of books, and no real information. Any help would be gratefully appreciated!! Thanks!

For Floral designers/shop owners? I am currently taking a long distance floral design course through the Floral Design Institute. Once I complete the program and become certified how much is that a factor in hiring someone? I haven't worked at a shop, at this point, I am just book smart. So what can I realistically expect to encounter??

Why are florists paid so little? I recently finished my floral design courses and am quite discouraged by the starting wage employers are offering. I not expecting to get rich working within the industry, but the average wage so far is $8 hourly (CAN). I realize that one has to work their way up, but really who can live on that and be able to save for a rainy day. When you have paid alot of money to take the nessarry courses, where is the financial gratification in the long run? I make more money serving tables which is a no brainer. Floral design is an art and takes creative tallant to be good at what you do. Not that I would call myself an artist yet, I have a long way to go, but I know people who have been in the business a long time, and arn't nearly paid what they deserve. Any imput would be appreciated!

What do u think of ICS? Would being a florist be a good career for a 19 year old who is in college but wants to get out their house? I am in college but live at home. My major is accounting but I love flowers and floral design. I could take a course over the winter or summer break but would I make enough and would it be worth it?

i need opinions about a tattoo design....immediate responses!? okay, i have a friend that got a tattoo and as cute as it is, i think its dumb as hell. I mean, she claims to be half cuban (which she is not) and her name is Toi (pronounced Toy). The tattoo that she has is partly a floral design and says "juegete" which means toy in spanish, but its the literal meaning of toy, like a childs plaything, not her name! i guess she asked someone and they told her this is her name in spanish...i mean it is, but really it's not. So she goes around showing it off of course and when people of latino descent see it, they ask her why she got it, she tells them her name is Toi and they look at her blankly. But for people that dont speak spanish, they are none the wiser. I mean, i told her before she got it that it does not mean her name but she's thinks she knows it all. But I'm still deciding on my tat and i dont want to make the same mistake this fool did....what do you all think of her tattoo choice? please no lectures, just your opinions. thanks!

I need some advice on how to get small amount study loan? I have 0 balance in my account coz of my family problem. Meanwhile, I plan to take short course in floral design. My mom advice me to find out details whether can get the small amount study loan first coz this is my long time ambition to become a florist and she keep on telling that i am waisting my time looking up the family financial problem only. One thing about me i can't see any of my family members suffer with any financial problem, i help them without asking back that money. I am happy to be like this. I dont want to think whether this atitude is a bad or not. Never think about myself. My target is my family financial problem can be sort by end of this year. She told me that i need to take step first on this to change my living style. Its my future. I plan to take that course as part time. Have you used Farmstogo.com? I just found this site and they have great prices on flowers. I am doing simple arrangements and my FMIL BFF (lol) took a couple courses on floral design and bridal design. She is going to help for free. Just buy the supplies. So needless to say, I have a great thing, if I can get the flowers I want for great prices. Best place in Houston to get tattoo done, and should I have artist modify the design for me? I am getting a small tattoo done soon in Houston, Texas, and I am looking for a clean, safe place to get it. A friend recommended the Sacred Heart Studio, but when I went to their website, they seem to focus on piercings, with tattoos almost as a side-business, which makes me a little nervous. Does anyone have any recommendations for safe, clean tattoo parlors? I will of course be checking out the possibilities in person before having anything done. In addition, I have a tattoo design that I like, but I want to have some minor modifications made to it—just turning a few parts that look slightly floral into distinctly floral. Is it better to pay one of these custom-tattoo guys on the internet who send you three options and then create a final one from your comments on those three, or to work with the artist who will actually be tattooing you? This is because when you reach at age eleven, you prepare and get checked by certain medical persons, and they decide when your powers are going to start to be developed, and it isn’t just a guess. They give you an exact date on when you’ll acquire that gift. And they had to hold me back on the process to get my powers. It’s very…embarrassing. I’m not going into details, but I do get picked on for this. But, not everyone gets powers…at all. “You will develop them---in the next seven months, Mr. Bradshaw.” Dr. Pavlov said looking at his clipboard, then to me. I was in the section on the hospital where you get checked for powers. I didn’t care where. “I’d say you’d keep it cool, a couple of weeks from now you will get a letter saying the date when you develop. Sorry to keep you waiting so long.” He said. “It’s okay, I’ve waited years for this day, I’m sure I can wait a few more months.” I said in a limited laugh. “Okay, you’re free to go.” He chuckled. I sauntered out of the white room. “So, when?” I heard dad ask as I walked seamlessly to the waiting room. “Seven more months.” I grumbled. My family…is the ordinary, all of the above type of family—except me. My dad, he works at a fitness program company and co-owns it. His confidant friend is the original owner, they both work out there also…every day in matter of fact. I don’t stay in touch with him a lot, I barley even see him a day. His power is mostly concerned on weight. He can also have visions on seeing images on a person’s past life. It’s sort of like reading minds, but different on seeing images rather than hearing. Mom…she works at a floral shop, just down the street. She hands out the flowers, plus she is like special at gardening. Flowers are mostly her personality, nothing much about mom. Her power is all about…well gardening. Yeah…that’s pretty weird isn’t it? But it’s the way it is, I guess. I really don’t actually know if mom has a power, I think it’s just her personality to garden… She never told me. My younger brother, Jeff, who’s fifteen, takes much on dad’s side. Let’s face it, he is more muscular than me, better looks, tanner, gets the girls (which every time I think of that I just roll my eyes), smart, and is…so called “popular”. That explains most of him. The only think that bugs me the most is having a brother who is more mature than me. He has powers, which is a shock-energy power, born in his blood to do it. Not surprised. I don’t really get it though. Oh, and me? The scrawny, little un-popular, not fit, or any of what Jeff got. I’m practically jealous of him, to be honest. We rode home from the hospital, getting ready to move to a new destination. My dad’s co-company is moving, so we must as well.
