Floral Design Supplies Knowledge Base

can anybody please help me in my homework for FLORAL DESIGN? A customer comes into your shop carrying a gorgeous oval bowl. It's very large, low, and has a pale gray crackled glaze; the customer says it's a bonsai container that he picked up during a trip to Japan. He wants you to make an arrangement of fresh flowers in it for the foyer of his business, because a celebration will take place there next week. The furnishings in the foyer are very modern. The bowl is to sit on a counter, so the arrangement will be visible from both sides. The customer says the colors in the foyer are black, white, and gray. He wants something very artistic so suit the bowl. After he leaves you with the bowl, it occurs to you that a parallel systems design might be just what this container needs. 1. To prepare the oval ceramic bowl, you should A. use green ¼ inch bowl tape in a plus sign to prevent the standard foam you intend to use from shifting. B. wash the bowl thoroughly, dry it carefully, attach dry foam with a plus sign of clear bowl tape to the bowl. C. wash the bowl thoroughly, dry it carefully, glue standard foam while it's still dry securely to the bottom of the bowl with pan glue, and then soak the foam. D. wash the bowl carefully, fill it with water, and wedge in a piece of standard foam that fits snugly in the bowl. 2. Your parallel systems design for this customer must be defined by A. an s-curve of ivy cascading below the bowl. B. at least two parallel groups of upright flowering branches used as line materials. C. a variety of spring flowers arranged as if they were growing in a garden. D. perfect lines of massed chrysanthemums forming concentric circles of color. 3. You decide to cover the bare foam left visible in this striking contemporary arrangement with maroon leaves that have an interesting gray reverse; you place the leaves on top of each other so that many leaf edges form a flat pattern and all the foam disappears. This technique is A. basing by layering B. basing by pavé C. basing by terracing D. basing by pillowing 4. You decide that you can add tulips to this parallel systems design if you can make them into an upright column by tying them with raffia to keep them from bending into curves as tulips often do. This technique is called A. banding. B. binding. C. framing. D. skeletonizing. A customer comes in with a request for a romantic arrangement to be placed on a piano in her living room which is pale pink and white. A friend who's a professional pianist has graciously offered to entertain her extended family at a reunion to be held at her house. She wants to honor her friend with a fluid, eye-catching arrangement to suit the classical music she'll be playing for them. 5. You immediately suggest a Hogarth arrangement and you describe it to the customer as A. an arrangement of cascading elements. B. an arrangement with equally strong vertical and horizontal elements. C. an arrangement with a continuous line in an s-shape. D. an arrangement with a triangular shape in which the three points symbolize heaven, humans, and earth. 6. You decide to use pink, rose, maroon, and mauve flowers. Your color scheme is A. triad. B. complementary. C. monochromatic. D. analogous. 7. The container for your Hogarth arrangement should be A. a low basket with plastic liner. B. a ceramic dish filled with river rock. C. a tall ceramic vase with wet foam and room for water. D. a low, ball-shaped glass vase filled with water. Someone at your local public TV station knows that you want to break into party floral designing. This TV executive went to a party where you had created an amazing set piece surrounding a small dance floor. She was impressed. She's asked you to supply floral arrangements as a background feature for a live TV concert of a popular local rock band to air next month. You'll receive an on-screen plug and you'll be allowed to hand out brochures about your business to the studio audience. The band is very modern and sophisticated. A great opportunity to make a name for yourself has fallen in your lap, what shall you do to get noticed and at the same time give this band an artful set to back them? 8. You know that you want to make reference to this band's punk influences, but you want to update the set-piece to inject your own feelings about their music, so you choose to create A. a set piece of Flemish arrangements that have fallen and broken. B. a set piece of waterfall arrangements. C. a set piece of Ikebana in the abstract style. D. a set piece in the new wave style with an interpretive approach. 9. In several areas of your design for the rock concert set, you decide to place identically drooping gladiolus leaves in pairs one behind the other. This technique is called A. sequencing. B. shadowing. C. g
What are "Water Jewels" made of? Has anyone else heard of them? They are sold at craft stores in the same department as floral design supplies, as vase fillers for fresh or silk flower arrangements. They start out as tiny hard spheres; the clear color variety looks just like the silicone dessicant found in shoe boxes (to keep them dry). When you leave them in water for about 1 hour each one swells up to about marble size and becomes a beautiful clear or colored sparkling orb. Then they are squishy and slippery. Most amusing. The package is about 2 inches across and contains 200 or so. They come in clear, blue, and green so far but they CAN be colored with food coloring as they expand. Warm water makes them expand faster. They shrink back to original size when they dry out in about a week! Salt destroys them completely. What the heck are they???

I am looking for a catchy business name for an event decorating business? My services would include: floral and event design, chair cover and linen rental, placecard/menu/invitations, favors, and party supply rentals. I would like to one day expand and incorporate a bakery(wedding cake specialization) so I would need a name that would make sense if I do incorporate the baking aspect. Thanks ahead for any ideas.
Cookie Bouquet supplies? Does anyone know where to find the supplies for cookie bouquets (ie..baskets, inserts, etc) like Cookie Bouquets or Cookies by Design or Gourmet Cookie Bouquets use? I know you can use a wicker basket or some other basket and use floral foam to anchor them, but I want something more professional. I want to know where the franchise places get theirs! Thanks!
Have you used Farmstogo.com? I just found this site and they have great prices on flowers. I am doing simple arrangements and my FMIL BFF (lol) took a couple courses on floral design and bridal design. She is going to help for free. Just buy the supplies. So needless to say, I have a great thing, if I can get the flowers I want for great prices. I just want to know what you thought about them, or if any other wholesale dealers were awesome and you want to share! Thanks!

School Supply question.? A few girls at school had a five star notefolio thing, it had a floral/vine design on it. They said they got it at Target, but when I search it I can't find it. I also checked the mead/fivestar website and its not there either. If anyone bought it or knows where they bought it, or has seen it, please tell me. They said it came in pink, purple, blue, and green. A notefolio is a binder with built in notebook and expandable file. It had plastic/rubber rings instead of metal.
How much should be spent on a wedding? Here's some info that may help! Can do a Local venue for around $6,000 and will also have to supply my own caterer, wedding cake, DJ, floral arrangements, etc. not as beautiful and spacious closer to home so guests will only have to travel about 5-10 miles can do on a Saturday probably won't have to make a loan with the bank OR southern oaks plantation for around $12,000 only have to buy cake and get florist to design bouquets and boutonnieres 100% more beautiful this is what I really want out of town, guests would have to travel about 50 miles probably will do on a Friday night instead because Saturday is even more expensive and harder to book catering, attendants, DJ, unlimited alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages are provided includes horse and carriage and fireworks! probably will have to take a loan out with the bank for some (some!) of the cost P.S. we already live together and have bought a home.... nobody is seeing my point of view...where I live there aren't too many places to have a ceremony and the places there are...it's not that great...it would be just an ordinary wedding nothing to talk about....I want something to talk about...and if anyone watches the video (www.southernoaksplantation.com) you will know what I mean. Also, most people spend around $5,000 for their wedding and then spend $5,000 or maybe less on a honeymoon....well we aren't going on a honeymoon. I told my man that if I have my wedding at this place, I don't need one!

Health Care Career after degree in Agricultural Business? My entire life I grew up around animals, on a farm, joining the National FFA Organization. So when Senior year of high school came, it was no question what I would be going to college for... AGRICULTURAL BUSINESS. Now, don't get me wrong, I love my major, but I'm having some major problems with my future. I'm worried that perhaps, I chose the wrong major (I'm thinking that I may have just chosen my major because it was in my comfort zone, and because I know nothing else) and I should just graduate with an associates instead of my planned bachelor's degree and then transfer to an unrelated major. I would really love to graduate with my bachelor's degree in Agricultural Business (and possibly an associates degree in something like Horticulture or Floral Design for kicks), and then go to graduate school for a career in Health Care. The job security and pay scale is what is most enticing (I'll have at least $60,000 in student loans). I'm interested in becoming an Xray Technician, Diagnostic Medical Sonographer, or possibly even a Therapist of some sort. I love helping people and the feeling of giving. So... what is a career that I could get, with a Master's degree that has a good payscale and excellent job security and also doesn't mind that my undergrad is in Agricultural Business?
