My Floral Design

Is it normal for a photographer to sign his photos?

I was visiting a coffee shop today that features local artists and the display is all floral and nature photography. The artist signed the photos in the lower right corner. I've never seen this before. Have you? What to do you think? I makes sense, people sign other forms of art.

  1. I don't see why not. Authors sign their books, artists (painters) sign their paintings, so why not? It could be the photographer's way of getting his or her name out in the world in order to drum up business.
  2. I have seen professional photographers stamp (a stamp that transfers pigment or a foil to the print, not a rubber stamp) prints but not actually sign them. It's advertising, gives the picture a bit of distinction and helps keep it from being illegally copied.
  3. its just a form of advertising for him normally i dont think people do i know i certainly dont i do however stamp the reverse if an image is copyright protected. I do however take certain promo photos for businesses and do make them state it was photographed by my company on the ad somewhere which is kinda the same i guess i wouldnt sign it tho
  4. Yes, artist will often sign their work when it is being sold or displayed.
  5. i haven't but, i am going to start, i'm having too mant of my customers trying to copy the photos
  6. hmm i've never heard of that before... it's very creative! I add my logo, but i've never signed them before. Some people i've seen have his/her signature as their logo, and add them before printing, but it's saved into the computer, instead of actually signing every individual copy.
