Getting rid of 3-D "artwork" on wall :(?
HELP!!!!!!!! So I bought a house in July, and am stuck with artwork that I don't want all over my bedroom wall. The lady who lived here before me, painted this floral art on the wall, and it's somewhat 3-d (has some caulk to define the leaves and flowers), and I want to get rid of it, as it just doesn't go with my theme for my bedroom. My problem is how the hell to get rid of it??? When I moved in, my realtor told me I could probably just cut it out and replace the dry wall, but that's not a process/route I'm really looking to take, due to cost and complication of it. Any ideas??? Not sure if I could just sand it down and then paint over it???

- Get a flat spackling knife and scrape up and down vertically. The caulk should just flake off. Then, with your hand, feel for any raised areas that are left. Sand these with sandpaper. Next apply a primer such as Kilz to the entire wall. Now you can paint it and it should look fine.
- Removing what she used to create the depth in the paint depends on what she used. If she used a powder or chalk based product you can easily use a vibrating sander to buff the bumps down. If she used actual caulk (rubbery consistancy) you are going to have a much harder time removing it. I would suggest replacing the sheetrock in this case. You could also hire a sheet rock finisher to come in and repair it. Check them out on craigslist.com. I often have a professional come out and give me a quote to fix it. I ask them what they would do to fix it judge whether I could do it myself or not.
