Critique on Amateur Photos, Please!?
I took some pictures today with my Canon Powershot SD1100 IS for a summer project to get me into AP Studio Art. The project requires four photographs displaying four categories of photography. I have here some pictures that pertain to Floral Still Life and a Technique photo showing symmetry. I've never really read anything about photography or studied about it at all. However, I'm willing to take the plunge during the summer to learn all I can about it. This is a Floral Still Life: http://photos-c.ak.facebook.com/photos-ak-sf2p/v290/19/122/757979615/n757979615_898338_4940.jpg This is a photograph showing symmetry: http://photos-b.ak.facebook.com/photos-ak-sf2p/v290/19/122/757979615/n757979615_898337_4675.jpg I would love any critique, tips, or recommendations on study materials from any professional or experienced photographer. Thank you so much!

- I liked them both. The floral one because of the slim green across the front of the flower. The wine one I LOVED.I would hang that one in my dining room,it would look beautiful.
- I liked them both too, however the still life-floral would be a better picture if the main pinkish flower was a little more off center. That green stem thing is very distracting. Also if you took the bottle picture a little more downward so that we couldn't see the background would be an improvement.
- You want critique to help you. So i will. I cant stand stupid oh i love them answers they are wasting everyones time. they are good attempts the flower view point is to average, try a better view point, the image is also soft, use a tripod if you have one, use a reflector to add some fill light. the bottles are good, use a better view point to exclude the background - it destroys your symetery...........get closer and fill the frame. hope thats helpful, if you ask for critique here and actually want it (most just want some stroking and others just want to stroke.....) you will getg it from a few and hot air from others - you fiquire it out... a
- I might say the floral was more of a macro, and not really a still life...But it is reasonably in focus and the light is fairly good. Here are a couple of still life floral examples. (Note, I am not the photographer, here...I wish, but I don't do many still life lol) http://photo.net/photodb/photo?photo_id=6521040 http://photo.net/photodb/photo?photo_id=6063276 The bottles were symmetrical, but might have been better if the background were plain, it is a little distracting as is. For summer study material, try anything by Bryan Peterson, especially "Understanding Exposure", and "Learning to See Creatively". Good luck, your pictures were good for a beginner.
- Your floral's focus is soft and I would not recommend displaying an ill focused image for this project. The second, while showing symmetry and in focus, is really not that interesting. It will "do", but I would try other images as well.
- To soft the flowers are. The other while symetery yes, lose the BG and try another subject. You are doing really well, take the advice of the people above that didnt say they love them.
